If the “leaked” PowerPoint presentation and additional details about the Storm and the BlackBerry Application Center (meant for the Storm) isn’t enough to convince you of the phone’s impending, err, release, then maybe this will.

Here, my friends, is Vodafone’s first promotional video for the upcoming BlackBerry Storm, RIM’s first touch screen device ever. It will be a monumental release for RIM so the video ad has to live up to it and I believe it did. The BlackBerry Storm, by the bye, is full-faced touch screen phone with preloaded instant messaging and social site apps, 3.2 megapixel camera, web browser, and media player. Its most controversial feature would most probably be its screen that acts as one big button you have to press down to select icons. But, if it makes you happy, the Storm has copy and paste.

At least it looks like it doesn’t completely suck. The flashlight is probably not that powerful, but just knowing where your flashlight is and having it at the ready is what’s awesome here. Plus, it saves space. Sadly, it’s just a concept right now, but it’s one that can easily find a place in the home. We’re thinking it will be available in a year.

For the basic 1GB data Vodafone 3G 24-month data plan, you can expect to pay $19.95 for the data plus $5 for the USB Internet stick (pictured) per month. Everyone who needs a bit more than that can get the 5GB 24-month data plan for $39.95 per month including payment for the USB internet stick. Both plans are now $10 less than they previously were. Additionally, if you exceed your allotted data per month, you will be transferred over to Vodafone’s 2.5G network.
Well known camera giant Nikon put out a audio/video device on maket that brings TV to your eye. This headset is the latest from Nikon and it’s called Nikon Media Port UP. Most of video headsets like myvu, are usually designed to take video files off of the iPod and make them a private experience for the viewer. Couple of things that make Media Port UP stand out from the crowd is the fact that it’s WiFi ready and supports Windows Media Player as a source. This specific product belongs to that area of transitional tech which alows us to use internet without the need of laptop computers or such gear, it has a memory of 4 to 8 gigabyte within it’s hard drive. Specs include 120 minutes of playback time for video, and 270 minutes of playback time for music. The Media Port UP is even designed with some hands-free operation. So when a user moves his or her head, it somehow affects the playing. Right now, you should be able it at the Up Store for about $580.

If you'll recall, Tsukuba University professor Yoshiyuki Sankai designed a robotic suit called HAL-5 a few years ago. Production of this handicap-overcomer began back in 2006, and as promised, manufacturer Cyberdyne (not to be confused with Cyberdyne Systems, best known for its genocidal Skynet AI and army of Terminator robots) is finally ready to crank it out in large numbers. Starting this Friday, HAL will be available for rent in Japan at the modest rate of $2,200 per month. Sankai hopes it will prove useful to the elderly and folks with disabilities by providing super-strength mechanical assistance when they send brain signals to move their limbs. HAL may be used for good but it won't be used for awesome; Sankai has turned down military-types who've expressed interest.

[Thanks, Evan]

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Auto designers have been toying with the idea of three-wheeled transports for some time now and this latest concept by Higgins-Aubé called ENERGYA is pretty much another attempt at it. This side-by-side two seater is legally considered in most jurisdictions a “motorcycle”, eliminating most of the mandatory automobile systems and components that weigh down and increase the price of regular 4-wheeled automobiles. Higgins-Aubé call this segment bender a “motomobile”, and have fitted it with a hefty (200 HP) motorcycle engine powering the single rear wheel. Future(future) designs will see an all-electric drivetrain that will take all the vroom vroom out and replace it with pssshh psshhh.
